If I can't be in the open plains in the summer, my next favorite place is on the road on a moody winter day. This photograph I took near Broadview, Montana, captures the quiet, cinematic allure of winter, where an endless ribbon of asphalt cuts through a frosted landscape of evergreen and mist. The sharp contrast of the golden center line leads the eye toward the horizon, disappearing into a soft haze that blurs the line between the road and the sky. There is a meditative stillness in this scene—the cool, muted tones and the dusting of fresh snow evoke the feeling of a peaceful morning drive where the only sound is the hum of tires against the pavement. It is a stunning tribute to the expansive beauty and solitude found in the heart of the Mountain West.
